Wyoming HEARS Convention of States + National Update | COS LIVE

With several states taking action on Convention of States this month, Rita Peters and Andrew Lusch run through the latest legislative updates for Convention of States. Then, the Wyoming Senate Judiciary Committee hears from the public on our Article V application calling for a convention to propose constitutional amendments that would impose fiscal restraints, jurisdictional constraints, and term limits on the federal government. Two legislators introduce the resolution and answer committee questions before State Director Julie Baker gives her own remarks. After some "weird" opponent testimony, including from a lobbyist with an organization that has ties to George Soros, the committee takes a vote on whether to send the legislation to the Wyoming Senate for debate. Then, Regional Director Deanna Becket joins the live broadcast to react to the results and preview next steps.

On February 18 the Iowa House Committee on State Government took up Convention of States Action's Article V application. One committee member argued for not one but five unfriendly amendments to the legislation. After the vote, Regional Director and Iowa native Karen Schuster joins Andrew Lusch and constitutional attorney Rita Peters to react to the big win and preview what comes next in the process. Rick Santorum brings passion and truth to the South Dakota House State Affairs Committee in a public hearing of Convention of States Action's Article V application. After an introduction by the legislative sponsor, Santorum gives an invigorating argument for passing the resolution, followed by testimony from Shirlee Meier, who serves as the volunteer State Director in South Dakota. Following opposition testimony, Santorum then demonstrates his sharp knowledge on the subjects of federal overreach and Article V by rebutting the opponents and answering questions from state legislators. Unfortunately, the resolution was not adopted by a vote of 6-6.
