Rick Santorum brings passion and truth to the South Dakota House State Affairs Committee in a public hearing of Convention of States Action's Article V application. After an introduction by the legislative sponsor, Santorum gives an invigorating argument for passing the resolution, followed by testimony from Shirlee Meier, who serves as the volunteer State Director in South Dakota. Following opposition testimony, Santorum then demonstrates his sharp knowledge on the subjects of federal overreach and Article V by rebutting the opponents and answering questions from state legislators. Unfortunately, the resolution was not adopted by a vote of 6-6. Hot on the heels of Kansas becoming state #20, the state of South Dakota is leading the race to become the 21st state to join the movement to permanently rein in the power of the federal government, restore fiscal sanity in Washington, and impose term limits on Congress and other federal officials. After a short debate and overwhelmingly favorable vote, Andrew Lusch interviews Regional Director Deanna Becket for reaction and preview of what comes next in the legislative process.

South Dakota Senate Hears Convention of States | COS LIVE

On January 23, 2026, the South Dakota Senate State Affairs Committee voted after hearing public testimony on Convention of States Action's Article V application for proposing fiscal restraints, jurisdictional constraints, and term limits on the federal government. Rick Santorum was on the ground in Pierre to testify in favor, along with local activists. Several committee members made compelling arguments for their yes vote. The final vote was 8-1 with a DO PASS recommendation, and the resolution will now go to the Senate floor for debate.

On January 22, 2026, a vote of the Kansas House of Representatives officially made Kansas the 20th state to join the Convention of States movement! Calling a convention may not be easy, but it is possible. And the grassroots won’t back down until it happens.The team faced multiple unusual obstacles, including a now-defunct state provision purporting to raise the threshold for passing Article V applications above the constitutional requirement, but never gave up. 

On Thursday, their efforts finally paid off with an 80–42 vote in the Kansas House, making Kansas an official applicant for an Article V convention.
